FOUNDED IN 1998

The Indianola Area Dollars for Scholars local chapter was founded in 1998 with the cooperation of the Indianola Community School District.  It is operated totally by local volunteers and is affiliated nationally with Scholarship America  (www.scholarshipamerica.org) .  In 2000, Indianola Area Dollars for Scholars received the Golden Tassel Award as the Best New Chapter.  Two of the Founders remain active today.  In 2013 Scholarship America named Dennis Lamport the North Volunteer of the Year

Since its founding,  $901,330 has been awarded to 2,222 IHS graduates.  Scholarships have ranged from $100 - $3000 dollars.  In some cases, students may be eligible for a matching scholarship from their college of choice through the Scholarship America Matching Partners program.

The bulk of funds for scholarships come from the continued support of area businesses, school district employees, service clubs, alumni class gifts, individual donors and endowment funds.  Scholarships are awarded as memorials, class gifts, in honor of individuals or families, or in the name of the sponsoring business or organizations.
